The problem of child workers is a recurring situation in a large percentage of
countries, especially those that are developing countries. A determining factor
being for developing countries is the low grade of schooling for minors involved in
this problem and Colombia is no exception although the recent governments have
promoted campaigns and taken steps to minimize the problem much is still what
you need to move in that direction.
This paper discusses the situation of child workers, not only in the light of social
reality, but from the standpoint of some rules that were devised and put into effect,
precisely in order to neutralize a problem whose effects are extremely harmful,
since it not only limits the child access to schooling but in many cases, it must
assume the inherent risks of the work performed, some of which are extremely
dangerous, not only for the physical integrity but to the moral and spiritual
formation of the child, when it is used in work not suitable for his young age, such
as mining, begging, the handling of toxic substances, the micro-trafficking, among
others.
The findings of the study are oriented towards the recognition of the problem and
the need for the state to take certain measures, although they do not eradicate or
completely avoid the persistence of a problem, intended to attack it at the root and
more effectively to protect child victims of this anomalous situation and provide
them with a real opportunity to gain access to a future that give them opportunities
and prepares them for access to decent work and to not put at risk their physical
and psychological integrity.
