This document is the result of a research study that took place at British International College due to the difficulties found in students when faced with problem solving in the area of statistics as a result of the traditional teaching strategies currently used. In the first place, there is a theoretical framework about the subject in order to set the context that was used as the object of the research process and to study theories about problem solving, oral and written language used in Mathematics, and also different teaching strategies. It also provides an analysis and interpretation of the data based on the concepts that directed the investigation and the information provided by each one of the members who participated in the different areas. Further on, it posts a proposal that has as a target the improvement in the area of problem solving which was observed in the sample used in the study, and that is based in the development of critical and creative thinking skills which will ease attaining the objective. It also provides strategies and actions that direct towards the achievement of the goals set. Finally, it presents a report of the development and improvement obtained by the students in the area of problem solving that include statistics. It also has conclusions and general recommendations to improve the process of problem solving. Ethnographic methodology was used in the research process since it looks for the understanding and interpretation of a real context through the participation and commitment of all the community members
