The incorporation of innovative strategies in the educational field through the use of technological tools, such as video game, have been evolving in the current educational paradigm, where a globalized world imposes the development of more competitive skills and professional competences. The objective of the present investigation is to determine the relationship between the video game Minecraft and the cognitive performance of tenth grade students of Systems Center Institute in Barranquilla city. The research paradigm used was positivist, taking a quantitative approach for a quasi-experimental design using the Minimental Test to measure cognitive performance before and after the experimental sessions. The main results show up that students have a high control and knowledge of video games, when they have early started to use them at a young age. By the other hand, the contrast of hypothesis shows up a statistically significant difference between the performance for students who interacted with the Minecraft video game (Experimental group) and Those that did not (Control Group). Mann Whitney test pointed out that scores were higher for experimental group after play Minecraft videogame (Me=32,87) than those got in previus test (Me=31,33), U=278. P=,010, r=,47.eng
