The research field on technologies and wireless sensor networks (WSN) are becoming one of the most disruptive technologies that support different scenarios of ubiquitous and generalized computing. WSN applied to the human body is generally called wireless body sensor networks. WSN can provide large quantities of data. The use of data mining techniques has allowed expanding WSN in new areas like biomedicine or telemedicine. The identification of psychological patterns and human activity recognition are two important trends to follow. In the current study, it is applied a SEMMA methodology to implement data mining clustering and classification techniques over RSS signal samples of a WBSN, based on IEEE 802.15.4 networks, with the intention of recognizing human activities based on samples. Two algorithms are applied, C4.5 and LTM for evaluate the rate success in the prediction.

The health care domain is a culmination and emergence of many other economic sectors that give different services from patient treatment to healing, protective, rehabilitation, and palliative care. The GDP consumes to facilitate health in terms of smart device development, clinical examinations, outsourcing, and tele-medication facilities. The Asian countries and less developed countries with a high population rate are facing health care services related issues. One of these countries is India. India has two types of health care services systems: (i) public service system and (ii) private system. The public health system, i.e., the government, provides facilities to patients as primary health centers (PHCs) through limited secondary and tertiary health institutions like hospitals in rural areas while the private service is owned by local practitioners and institutions. Both of these service providers are facing bed occupancy issues for patients due to a highly populated country. To overcome this issue, we propose a machine learning solution for patient admission scheduling autonomously. The proposed framework helps hospitals to enhance the decision process for bed occupancy for patients concerning their departments and their diseases. We have deployed our framework in real time environment and find that it facilitates the overall performance of bed allocation in the prescribed hospitals.

The internet of things is a disruptive technology that has been applied as a solution to problems in many fields of monitoring environmental variables. It is supported by technologies such as wireless sensor networks, which offer many protocols and hardware platforms in the market today. Protocols such as 6LoWPAN are novel, so this work focuses on determining whether its implementation on TelosB mote is feasible; these would be placed on an experimental deployment for a particular scenario of flash floods in a sector known as “La Brigada”, in the city of Barranquilla. This proposal has not been evaluated in Colombia for this type of application, and no similar work has been done for this type of scenario. For the evaluation of 6LoWPAN, a deployment with two end nodes and a sink node has been designed, due to the monitoring section under study; 5-min tests are proposed where through round trip time traffic PINGv6 packets are generated back and forth (Echo) between a sink node and two end nodes. The results are based on the evaluation of metrics such as delay and ping packet request/response rate. The performance of these metrics is subject to test scenarios that vary according to distance, packet size, and channel scan time. Two routing options, static or dynamic, are also proposed for this application case. The tests performed yielded results in terms of better performance in the test scenarios for packets with an average size of 120 B and channel monitoring times of 1024 ms. Likewise, the use of the TelosB platform was validated as a viable and innovative option for a monitoring scenario to flash floods in short stretches of the city of Barranquilla—Colombia. This study is important because it can provide information on the use of the TelosB platform as a valid solution for similar application scenarios; furthermore, the tests performed can be replicated in similar studies to evaluate congestion, power consumption, routing, topologies, and other metrics. This study is providing a road map for the research community to follow the simulation scenario to apply the test to their own studies. This work also provides the guidelines for similar researchers to monitor the flood in their own regions and then compare their results with this study.

Agile has been invented to improve and overcome the deficiencies of efficient software development. At present, the agile model is used in software development vastly due to its support to both developers and clients resourcefully. Agile methodology increases the interaction between the developer and client to make the software product defect-free. The agile model is getting to be a well-known life cycle model because of its particular features and most owing is to allow changes at any level of the project from the product owner. However, on other hand, this novel feature is a disadvantage of the agile model due to frequent change requests from the client has increased the cost and time. To overcome cost and time estimation issues different cost estimation techniques are being used in agile development but no one is pertinent for accurate estimation. Therefore, this study has proposed a cost estimation technique. The proposed estimation technique is predictions-based and has different categorizations of projects based on user stories complexities and the developer's expertise. We have applied the suggested technique to ongoing projects to find the results and effectiveness. We have used two projects with different sizes and user stories. Both projects have different modules and developers with different expertise. We have used the proposed estimation technique on projects and done a survey session with the teams. This survey session's main objective is to reveal the statistical findings of the proposed solution. We have designed the 12 hypotheses for statistical analysis.

Software engineering has many software development life cycle (SDLC) models to develop a software application and the latest SDLC models have been provided by agile methods. The agile methodology has been introduced due to some existing lacks in software development. Now agile methodology is used to overcome these deficiencies and improve software development. The use of the agile methodology is increased within software industries due to its distinctive features such as enabling change requests from the client at any stage of a project, client satisfaction, iterative development, and client-developer interaction. Another reason for agile adoption is the methods that are being used for agile software development. These methods include Scrum, Feature drive development, Extreme programming, and Dynamic system development methods. However, the agile methodology has some issues for project development and management. In this study, we discuss all these issues which are related to agile methods and individuals (i.e. team and developer). Further, we suggest the possible improvements that need to be introduced in the agile methodology. We believe such improvements is to make the agile methodology more productive for development environments.

Las redes de telecomunicaciones son transversales y sumamente importantes para múltiples soluciones tecnológicas de la actualidad. Algunas de estas se enfocan en aplicaciones de agricultura en donde las condiciones y extensión de los cultivos crean la necesidad de obtener en tiempo real información de ciertas variables. Estos datos son necesarios para el monitoreo, toma de decisiones y control adecuado de procesos referentes a la salud de las plantas con el objetivo de mejorar la productividad y calidad de las mismas. Es por esto, que este documento plantea una red inalámbrica de bajo costo para el monitoreo de plantaciones en ambiente tropical enfocada especialmente en los huertos de hierbabuena y orégano, del parque biotemático Megua y los contenedores de compost. Para implementar la red inalámbrica se tomó como base los módulos de comunicación XBee Pro S2 de la compañía Digi y placas programables Arduino UNO, que brindan confiabilidad y bajo costo. Además, se desarrolló una librería para facilitar la programación e inserción de nuevos dispositivos en modo API para aprovechar las características funcionales de este protocolo. La red se desplegó en huertos y contenedor de compost del parque biotemático Megua, ubicado en el departamento del Atlántico en el municipio de Galapa, para garantizar condiciones ideales en el suelo de los huertos y el compost. Para ello se implementó un servidor, haciendo uso de una plataforma Raspberry Pi como computadora principal. Finalmente se realizaron pruebas de funcionamiento del dispositivo en donde se midieron paquetes perdidos, niveles de RSSI y consumo energético de los dispositivos. Los resultados mostraron que el dispositivo opera correctamente en el tiempo, mostrando valores promedios de temperatura entre 24 °C y 31,5 °C y humedad relativa entre 37% y 72%; adicionalmente, el consumo energético aproximado del prototipo fue de 80 mA en periodo de transmisión de datos y de 50 mA en periodo de sueño del módulo XBee.

Background: Scrum methodology is the most useful and adopted part of the agile methodology. Many organizations are adopting Scrum for the last decade to meet their software requirements. It is facilitating the software industries to develop software applications according to the user’s requirements. Objective: Scrum helps to fulfill the customer’s requirements by interacting with the client and developer. Instead of this, scrum still has some challenges that influence the cost of a scrum. These challenging factors include coordination, team size, change request, complexity, and issues in daily meeting sessions. Due to these factors mostly the cost and time exceed scrum-based projects. To overcome these issues from the accurate and precise estimation in the scrum project we have developed a web-based software system to estimate the effort of a user story as well as the budget. Methodology: There are some sophisticated cost estimation techniques for scrum-based projects. But all estimation techniques have some limitations that make them less useful for estimation and overcoming the effects of these factors in the scrum. We have surveyed the multiple software industries to get the static findings of the survey. We have designed the 30 hypotheses that main aim to reveal how much the proposed estimation technique is valuable for the accuracy of estimation. For the inclusion of participants, we have set the age criteria to get the opinions of the most experienced programmers. Results: The main aim of this paper is to provide knowledge about key challenging factors in Scrum that cause exceed in cost and time, and also briefly explain why existing scrum cost estimation techniques are not pertinent for projects. In the last, we propose a framework as a solution to manage these factors and control cost and time from exceeding. We also adopted this estimation technique in different case studies in software industries for findings and results. The technique calculates the efforts autonomously. We design a software-based estimation technique that collects inputs from team/s and estimates the cost and time of a project. Conclusion: In outcomes, we found that our cost estimation approach reduced the issues from scrum software project development and make it more proficient for estimation of projects. Our proposed estimation technique introduced the new concept of estimation that facilitate the client, software industry, and developers as well to meet the requirements of the client, fulfill the changes during the sprints/s development and deliver the project within the time and cost.
