El presente estudio tiene como propósito diseñar una propuesta didáctica mediada por el MLearning para fortalecer el proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje del inglés de los estudiantes de segundo grado de primaria de la IED las Mercedes San Pablo, basada en las teorías del conectivismo, aprendizaje significativo, de la adquisición, aculturación y sociocultural; el cual se ha convertido en uno de los retos más grandes en muchas instituciones educativas y países donde la lengua materna no es el inglés. Integrar las TIC en el campo de la educación es un acto de gran relevancia, teniendo en cuenta que los estudiantes de hoy son nativos digitales y por lo tanto su atención y disfrute se encuentra centrada en ellas. La problemática se determina tras la aplicación de algunos instrumentos de la investigación cualitativa que evidenciaron la ausencia de estrategias didácticas por parte de los docentes ante el poco dominio y la enseñanza de una segunda lengua. Asimismo, este trabajo permitió una aproximación a una situación social con el fin de describir y comprenderla a partir de un proceso de interpretación y construcción teórica desde el enfoque introspectivo-vivencial dando paso a identificar los factores que condicionan el aprendizaje de una segunda lengua. De acuerdo con los hallazgos del proceso de diagnóstico se diseña una propuesta didáctica que se fundamenta en una secuencia didáctica con actividades interactivas que se han seleccionado bajo la metodología del M-Learning; la cual estará alojada en un blog interactivo adaptado al contexto del grupo focalizado.

When we talk about education, it is essential to take into account the subjects towards whom it is directed, that is, the students. Currently, the generation of “digital natives” or “millennials” has undergone changes in their cognitive and metacognitive structures, forcing teachers to modify teaching structures adapting them to new needs. It is for this reason that the present investigative work aims to "propose the use of M-Learning to strengthen reading and writing in 3rd grade students of the Cevillar Concentration District Educational Institution" in order to provide new strategies that allow the acquisition of meaningful learning, interaction between mobile devices and students, dialogue of knowledge through virtuality and flexibility of learning. This study focuses on the interpretive paradigm, with a qualitative research approach and the study method is action research. The results showed that some teachers develop structured classes with strategies of little interest to students. Likewise, during the development of the classes, the transmission of information is a priority. For the solution to the problem, a didactic proposal was developed, where striking activities were implemented that would contribute to the strengthening of literacy.

Background: In order to remain active and productive, older adults with poor health require a combination of advanced methods of visual monitoring, optimization, pattern recognition, and learning, which provide safe and comfortable environments and serve as a tool to facilitate the work of family members and workers, both at home and in geriatric homes. Therefore, there is a need to develop technologies to provide these adults autonomy in indoor environments. Objective: This study aimed to generate a prediction model of daily living activities through classification techniques and selection of characteristics in order to contribute to the development in this area of knowledge, especially in the field of health. Moreover, the study aimed to accurately monitor the activities of the elderly or people with disabilities. Technological developments allow predictive analysis of daily life activities, contributing to the identification of patterns in advance in order to improve the quality of life of the elderly. Methods: The vanKasteren, CASAS Kyoto, and CASAS Aruba datasets were used to validate a predictive model capable of supporting the identification of activities in indoor environments. These datasets have some variation in terms of occupation and the number of daily living activities to be identified. Results: Twelve classifiers were implemented, among which the following stand out: Classification via Regression, OneR, Attribute Selected, J48, Random SubSpace, RandomForest, RandomCommittee, Bagging, Random Tree, JRip, LMT, and REP Tree. The classifiers that show better results when identifying daily life activities are analyzed in the light of precision and recall quality metrics. For this specific experimentation, the Classification via Regression and OneR classifiers obtain the best results. Conclusion: The efficiency of the predictive model based on classification is concluded, showing the results of the two classifiers, i.e., Classification via Regression and OneR, with quality metrics higher than 90% even when the datasets vary in occupation and number of activities.

Our research aims to establish how to predict the H index of Colombian authors with publications in Scopus until 2016. The selection of the date was because, as mentioned earlier, the number of documents indexed per year exceeded 10,000 and they obtained the highest number of documents cited. To accomplish this purpose, a quantitative, nonexperimental, cross-sectional, descriptive, explanatory, and predictive research was designed using supervised learning algorithms. These were applied to information from 8,840 Colombian authors. Among the findings we can highlight that: (i) Colombia is in the fifth position in the scope of countries of South America and the Caribbean, in terms of the number of products and citations; (ii) the largest number of Colombian authors with products in Scopus until 2016, belonged mainly to the area of natural sciences, followed by medical sciences and health; (iii) most of the Colombian authors were men (64.2%, or 5,442) and they have higher H index rates than women; (iv) using random cross validation for 10 iterations, the methods with the best predictive value using R2 and the minimization of mean absolute error (MAE) correspond to: AdaBoost (96.6% and 0.397, respectively); Random Forest (96.8% and 0.431, respectively); KNN (94.4% and 0.525, respectively); Tree (94.9% and 0.53, respectively); and Neural Network (93.3% and 0.7, respectively); and (v) the variables that help predict the H index in the case of the Colombian authors, in addition to the citations, correspond to: the quantity of products, number of products in Q1, and international collaboration

Reminders are a core component of many assistive technology systems and are aimed specifically at helping people with dementia function more independently by compensating for cognitive deficits. These technologies are often utilized for prospective reminding, reminiscence, or within coaching-based systems. Traditionally, reminders have taken the form of nontechnology based aids, such as diaries, notebooks, cue cards and white boards. This article is based on the use of machine learning algorithms for the detection of Alzheimer’s disease. In the experimentation, the LWL, SimpleLogistic, Logistic, MultiLayerPercepton and HiperPipes algorithms were used. The result showed that the LWL algorithm produced the following results: Accuracy 98.81%, Precission 100%, Recall 97.62% and F- measure 98.80%

This article shows the results of the research aimed at determining the prevalence of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in Young Adults University of Barranquilla and its Metropolitan Area. The sample of 1600 young adults between 18 and 25 years, which has been estimated at 95% confidence level and a margin of error of 2.44%. The information was acquired through the application of exploratory instruments symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. With the application of the algorithm different machine learning algorithms such as: Bagging, MultiBoostAB, DecisionStump, LogitBoost, FT, J48Graft, a high performance in the Bagging algorithm could be identified with the following results in quality metrics: Accuracy 91.67%, Precision 94.12%, Recall 88.89% and F-measure 91.43%.

The GDP consumes to facilitate health in terms of smart device development, clinical examinations, outsourcing, and tele-medication facilities. The Asian countries and less developed countries with a high population rate are facing health care services related issues. One of these countries is India. India has two types of health care services systems: (i) public service system and (ii) private system. The public health system, i.e., the government, provides facilities to patients as primary health centers (PHCs) through limited secondary and tertiary health institutions like hospitals in rural areas while the private service is owned by local practitioners and institutions. Both of these service providers are facing bed occupancy issues for patients due to a highly populated country. To overcome this issue, we propose a machine learning solution for patient admission scheduling autonomously. The proposed framework helps hospitals to enhance the decision process for bed occupancy for patients concerning their departments and their diseases. We have deployed our framework in real time environment and find that it facilitates the overall performance of bed allocation in the prescribed hospitals.

The use of magnetic biocatalysts is highly beneficial in bioprocesses technology, as it allows their easy recovering and enhances biocatalyst lifetime. Thus, it simplifies operational processing and increases efficiency, leading to more cost-effective processes. The use of small-size matrices as carriers for enzyme immobilization enables to maximize surface area and catalysts loading, also reducing diffusion limitations. As highly expensive nanoparticles (nm size) usually aggregate, their application at large scale is not recommended. In contrast, the use of magnetic micro-macro (µm-mm size) matrices leads to more homogeneous biocatalysts with null or very low aggregation, which facilitates an easy handling and recovery. Beaches on the eastern margin of Tayrona National Natural Park experienced stability and even accretion over the last decade, in contrast to general erosion along the Colombian Caribbean coast. The objective of this study is to characterize shoreline change and analyze the factors contributing to the accretionary trend. Orthorectified satellite images, combined with topography from both drone images and RTK-DGPS measurements, were used to map successive shorelines from 2002-2008. Net shoreline movement and shoreline migration rates revealed these beaches had an accretionary trend, with the exception of Piscina Beach that eroded during the time period. The maintenance of natural inputs of sediment from local rivers, redistributed by littoral drift with sediment bypassing across the small headlands limiting the beaches, the resilience of the beaches to the impact of hurricanes and low human pressure allows for a positive sedimentary budget for the beaches. Piscinas Beach is the most cut off from fluvial sediment input, and despite it has a coral reef barrier, its dissipative profile indicate that it is the most exposed to wave impact.

The 29 October, 1900, earthquake occurred in Venezuela triggered six landslides and six liquefactions located in the center-north region of Venezuela and La Tortuga island. Due to the location of the coseismic effects, the barycenter and the focal depth related to this earthquake, it was possible to calculate the magnitude by using several statistical methods. The results show a magnitude in the range 7.4-7.7 Mw, with an average value equal to 7.6 Mw, which is consistent with the instrumental magnitude of 7.6 Mw obtained by Fiedler (1988) and the macrosismic magnitude by Vásquez et al. (2018) equal to 7.5 ± 0.3 Mw estimated by using the Bakun and Wentworth (1997) method.

Malnutrition and vaccination in children: case of post-conflict zone in colombian caribean

Objectives To establish the association between malnutrition and vaccination and its socioeconomic determinants in children from a post-conflict zone. Methods a sample of 2,183 households with 2,682 children of 0-4 years was extracted from a survey of more than 15,000 persons. Indicators as weight-for-height, height-for-age and weight-for-age were calculated according to the World Health Organization standards. Vaccination status was checked by comparing the report of the vaccination card with the scheme of the Expanded Immunization Plan for the Pentavalent vaccine (Hepatitis B, Haemophilus Influenzae type B and Diphtheria - Whooping cough - Tetanus) for children 2-59 months and the scheme of BCG Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B for children <2 months. A logistic model with clusters per community was estimated to identify factors associated with malnutrition and vaccination. Results The prevalence of low weight, acute and chronic malnutrition was 2.4%, 5.5%, and 8.6% respectively. 96.3% of the children had their vaccines at the right age. Timely vaccination protects against global and acute malnutrition (OR: 0.244 and 0.357 p <0.001). Children with an incomplete vaccination scheme have a 4.6% probability of being underweight, and 12.1% of having acute malnutrition. The education of the mother (OR: 0.543 and 2.269 p <0.001), the socioeconomic level of the household (OR: and 0.811, and 2.631 p <0.001) and the dependency rate of the child under 5 years (OR: 1.22 and 0,546 p <0.001) are common determinants between acute malnutrition and child vaccination status, respectively. Conclusions This article provides evidence of timely vaccination at age as a protective factor for global and acute malnutrition. In addition, it shows the double effect of the socioeconomic conditions of households in the determination of vaccination and the nutritional status of children.

The properties of the biogas obtained were evaluated with a gas analyzer and a chromatograph, demonstrating that, under controlled temperature conditions, after the bio digestion of Zungo pig manure there is a methane content greater than 50%, which is acceptable demonstrating that this biogas is flammable. It was also established that there is a correlation between pH and methane content in biogas, so it is required to control it in the process.

In Colombia, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the most powerful engines of economic development, since they generate a high volume of jobs in the national territory, while diversifying productive, commercial, and service activities. In order to propose a model for logistics management as a component for the competitiveness of SMEs, a qualitative study is proposed that will allow us to collect from a structured review of recent literature, identifying the elements to be taken into account for logistics management in order to provide timely support and open space for continuous improvement. The proposed model is structured in six main blocks: characterization of processes according to the activity of the SME, external factors of influence, internal factors of influence, feeding of information, monitoring and control of operations, and feedback between support areas. The above elements have been analyzed and suggested taking into account the specific aspects of SMEs in the country, and taking into account the peculiarities of these small productive cells.

One of the conclusions is that industries that want to be productive and competitive in the market recognize the impedance of protecting the physical, mental and emotional integrity of their employees.

Management priorities in san andres island beaches, Colombia: associated risks

San Andres is a touristic island located in the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, Colombian Caribbean. The island reflects the current territorial dynamics, and economic development. These create significant changes that have been affecting its natural characteristics. The present study analyses the evolution of the landscape characteristics and beach litter situation at 17 points (sandy beaches/rocky shores). The amount and source of waste are different between the tourist beaches (excellent), non-tourist beaches (poor), and rocky shores (good), and correspond to human activities related to beach use and irregular disposal. Solid waste can be observed on trails, footbridges, vacant lots, and especially on non-tourist beaches. Beaches located farthest away from the island's touristic center are the most affected by litter, which puts tourists seeking beaches with a lower tourist density and local people at risk. These non-tourist beaches are considered improper due to the amount of hazardous solid waste present, including glass, even though they have coastal scenario values that are similar to the popular tourist beaches. The environmental management of the island should prioritize all the island beaches considering the fact that environmental quality reflects the growing social and environmental concerns of tourists when choosing their destinations.

La presente investigación estuvo dirigida a determinar las estrategias gerenciales para la formación de equipos de trabajos en empresas constructoras del caribe colombiano. La misma estuvo sustentada en los planteamientos teóricos referidos por: Robbins (2014), Dell’ordine (2000), Mintzberg y Quinn (2000), Daft (2004), Koontz y Weihrich, (2007); entre otros. La metodología fue de tipo descriptiva con un diseño no experimental de tipo transversal, la población estuvo conformada por treinta nueve cincuenta (39) sujetos gerentes de las empresas constructoras. La técnica de recolección de datos se llevó a cabo a través de dos cuestionarios, uno para estrategias (69) ítems, el otro para la variable Trabajo en equipo, (57) ítems, con alternativas tipo escala Likert. La validez del instrumento se obtuvo a través del juicio de 10 expertos, Para el cálculo de la confiabilidad se utilizó el método de alfa Crombach, donde se obtuvo un valor de 0.81 y 0,80. Los resultados fueron tabulados de acuerdo a los reactivos e interpretados estadísticamente mediante frecuencia absoluta y relativa, calculando los puntajes de tendencia central y desviación estándar. Representados por tablas. SE considera la necesidad de aplicar estrategias que permitan la creación y función de los equipos de trabajo.

As cities continue to grow in size and population, the design of public transport networks becomes complicated, given the wide diversity in the origins and destinations of users [1], as well as the saturation of vehicle infrastructure in large cities despite their attempts to adapt it according to population distribution. This indicates that, in order to reduce users’ travel time, it is necessary to implement alternative road solutions to the use of cars, increasing investment in public transportation [2, 3] by conducting a comprehensive analysis of the state of transportation. This situation has made appear the solutions and development oriented to transportation based on Internet of Things (IoT) which allows, in a first stage, monitoring of public transport systems, in order to optimize the deployment of transport units and thus reduce the time of transfer of users through the cities [4]. These solution proposals are focused on information collected from user resources (data collected through smart phones) to create a common database [5]. The present study proposes the development of an intelligent monitoring and management system for public transportation networks using a hybrid communication architecture based on wireless node networks using IPv6 and cellular networks (LTE, LTE-M).

Current global and complex economies demand change and restructuring processes. Besides the usual continuous change in their personal lives, when talking about changes in their working environment, employees offer considerable resistance. Difficulties related to managing this resistance on the part of the company will ultimately lead to organizational failure. Aimed at filling this gap, the present research provides a management model addressing both implicit and explicit resistance. The model comprises six key factors: leadership, communication, valuable HR retention, training, participation, and flexibility. Besides the theoretical model, it has been carried out a case study of a multinational company in the mechanical engineering sector, providing researchers and professionals with a roadmap of actions to manage the identified key factors. Furthermore, results reveal that Human Resources are no longer operational support. Instead, they represent a crucial asset to achieve the expected results in innovation and obtaining a sustainable competitive advantage
