The present investigation will be oriented to evaluate the existing infrastructure for pedestrians through measures of accessibility and connectivity taking into account also other variables such as built environment, pedestrian perception and topological variables. In addition, propose policies that increase the facility with which pedestrians can walk in the city, evaluating the impact they may have on them. For this purpose, the necessary information was collected to know the physical condition and evaluate the walkableness of the main roads of the city of Barranquilla, using a walkability index developed from the results of a pedestrian survey for the city (Saltarín, 2017). The application of the index will serve to determine the state of the pedestrian infrastructure and know the places that should be operated in the city if it is searching to improve the amount of trips that are made in walking mode. This index will be the main methodological basis in this project. It should be noted that this project is the first application of an index of this type in the country of Colombia.

Purpose: To analyze the effects of different warm-up protocols on endurance-cycling performance from an integrative perspective (by assessing perceptual, neuromuscular, physiological, and metabolic variables). Methods: Following a randomized crossover design, 15 male cyclists (35 [9] y; peak oxygen uptake [VO2peak] 66.4 [6.8] mL·kg−1·min−1) performed a 20-minute cycling time trial (TT) preceded by no warm-up, a standard warm-up (10 min at 60% of VO2peak), or a warm-up that was intended to induce potentiation postactivation (PAP warm-up; 5 min at 60% of VO2peak followed by three 10-s all-out sprints). Study outcomes were jumping ability and heart-rate variability (both assessed at baseline and before the TT), TT performance (mean power output), and perceptual (rating of perceived exertion) and physiological (oxygen uptake, muscle oxygenation, heart-rate variability, blood lactate, and thigh skin temperature) responses during and after the TT. Results: Both standard and PAP warm-up (9.7% [4.7%] and 12.9% [6.5%], respectively, P <.001), but not no warm-up (−0.9% [4.8%], P =.074), increased jumping ability and decreased heart-rate variability (−7.9% [14.2%], P =.027; −20.3% [24.7%], P =.006; and −1.7% [10.5%], P =.366). Participants started the TT (minutes 0-3) at a higher power output and oxygen uptake after PAP warm-up compared with the other 2 protocols (P <.05), but no between-conditions differences were found overall for the remainder of outcomes (P >.05). Conclusions: Compared with no warm-up, warming up enhanced jumping performance and sympathetic modulation before the TT, and the inclusion of brief sprints resulted in a higher initial power output during the TT. However, no warm-up benefits were found for overall TT performance or for perceptual or physiological responses during the TT.

This article determines the water footprint from the potato crop in Cuba between the years 2009 and 2012 using the CROPWAT model. Climate, yields and fertilization data are specific to each of the areas where the crops were grown. The results are compared with previous works in other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the case of Cuba, the results show a difference of 25% with respect to international reports developed with data related to climate and average crops in the country. Other countries in the region have similar levels, although with a smaller gray component and a larger green component. The water footprint from potato crops is also compared with other crops in Cuba, finding that potatoes represent the fourth largest water demand.

Water quality impacts on water bodies such as reservoirs are strongly influenced by the hydrodynamics of the system. Although multiple models might be applied, they are limited by the simplification of the variables. In this study, a two-dimensional public domain model, CE-QUAL-W2, was adapted to test whether it would generate an accurate hydrodynamic simulation of the URRÁ Reservoir in Córdoba, Colombia, to understand water quality. The variables to be modeled were temperature and dissolved oxygen due to their importance in ecological terms. Thus, trial and error techniques were used to calibrate and validate the model, varying different parameters such as the wind shelter coefficient (WSC). Although the model accurately predicted the hydrodynamic part by having daily flow information, significant modifications to the eddy diffusivity coefficient were required to simulate acceptable longitudinal currents. This research shows that the CE-QUAL-W2 model fits adequately to tropical lentic systems. However, it is recommended that, for future studies, the modeling be adjusted using hourly data, especially in areas where inflow and boundary conditions are unstable.

Introduction— The planting of 1200 ha of citrus fruits is planned in the “Jiguaní” Agricultural Enterprise and, for the design and subsequent management of the irrigation systems, it is essential to previously establish the water needs of the crop. Objective— Calculate the water needs of citrus orchards using the procedures outlined by FAO-56, applying the most recent update of the Allen and Pereira (A&P) approach. Method— To calculate the water needs of the crop, the ETo × Kc approach established by FAO-56 was followed. Within this, the ETo values were calculated using the Hargreaves-Samani equation and those of Kc , from the update of the A&P approach. Results— Water needs vary between 1.0 d–1 and 1.9 mm d–1 for young orchards, from 1.7 mm d–1 to 3.5 mm d–1 for high-density adult plantations and low trees, and from 2.2 mm d–1 to 4.3 mm d–1 for tall trees. Conclusions— The pertinence of the A&P approach to estimate the Kcb and Kc coefficients to determine the water consumption of orchards benefited with localized and high-frequency irrigation techniques was corroborated.

This method for acquiring ECG signals produces a great volumen of information that makes it diﬃcult for the records to be stored and transmitted. The proposed algorithm aims for lossless compression of the signal by applying Wavelet Packet Transform to keep errors below the unit, with compression rates over 20:1 and with conserved energy in reconstruction as comparison parameter. For algorithm validation, the signal ﬁles provided by PhysioBank DataBase are used.

The aeronautic sector has been economically affected by the closure of its operations with the appearance of the Covid-19. For reducing the impact of weather variables at airport operations, we present a predictive model for better planning. Better planning reduces operative costs and increase the level of client satisfaction. This paper uses hourly observation from 2011 to 2018 at three Colombian airports: The Dorado airport in Bogota, the Olaya Herrera airport in Medellin, and the Matecana airport in Pereira. We build prediction models with deep learning and machine learning methods. These models aim to forecast horizontal and vertical visibility variables with minimum errors. The Random Forest decision tree model performs better predicting theses variables in one, six, and twenty-four hours. This model has better results with the horizontal variable visibility forecasting for the three airports giving errors among 4% and 8%. This algorithm gave a flexible solution, and any airport can implement it.

Given this situation, the Online Reputation Analyst (ORA) faces the challenge of identifying relevant issues around an event, product and/or public figure, from which it can propose different strategies to strengthen and/or reverse trends. Therefore, this paper proposes and describes a web tool whose main objective is to support the tasks performed by an ORA. The proposed visualization techniques make it possible to immediately identify the relevance and scope of the opinions generated about an event that took place on Twitter.

Due to the processes of internationalization, competitiveness and other related factors, universities have implemented policies and management systems that allow them to monitor and measure their world ranking position. The present work analyzes a group of manageable visibility factors corresponding to universities present in the Top100 of Latin American Webometrics database published in January 2017 for the identification of profiles. For this purpose, information was collected about: the academic offer and scientific journals published on each university website, figures on documents and profiles found in Google Scholar, activity on social networks, and the institutional score reported by ResearchGate as a scientific network. Clusters were formed by quartiles to characterize the visibility profiles of Latin American universities considering the variables studied. The high offer of postgraduate degrees and presence in scientific networks and Google Scholar characterize the best positioned universities.

A través de este artículo, se presenta una reflexión sobre dos historias ocurridas, una a consecuencia de la otra. La primera, la Weissenhofsiedlung, en busca de una nueva arquitectura doméstica (Moderna) y la segunda, la Kochenhofsiedlung, como contraposición, defendiendo la tradición. La primera tiene la oportunidad de plasmar los conceptos de una nueva arquitectura como un hecho y no como una posibilidad teórica donde cada arquitecto se preocupó por la búsqueda de esa vivienda acorde a un tiempo donde la industria empieza a hacer parte de la cotidianidad, afectando el modo de vivir, y la segunda se propuso resaltar los conceptos de una sociedad que aun intenta mantener sus principios tradicionales. Los resultados de esta investigación, que permitió la confrontación de estas dos maneras de concebir la arquitectura, permiten concluir que tanto el experimento de la Weissenhof como el de la Kochenhof tienen un valor de suma importancia para el avance del pensamiento sobre la arquitectura doméstica en el periodo moderno, aunque sean antagónicas, lo cual es de suma importancia para dar pasos más seguros hacia el futuro.

Los resultados de esta investigación, que permitió la confrontación de estas dos maneras de concebir la arquitectura, permiten concluir que tanto el experimento de la Weissenhof como el de la Kochenhof tienen un valor de suma importancia para el avance del pensamiento sobre la arquitectura doméstica en el periodo moderno, aunque sean antagónicas, lo cual es de suma importancia para dar pasos más seguros hacia el futuro.

El análisis del bienestar laboral de los docentes incluye la identificación de los niveles de satisfacción en torno al bienestar laboral, psicológico, social y el clima laboral desde la perspectiva de los docentes y los líderes escolares. El enfoque metodológico aplicado fue el paradigma holístico, con un método mixto (cualitativo: entrenamiento al aire libre orientado desde la filosofía de UBUNTU, y cuantitativo: evaluación computarizada); Con una muestra general de 721 docentes y líderes escolares. Las pruebas administradas fueron: Escala de Bienestar Laboral (.: .872), Escala de Bienestar Psicológico (∞: .883), Escala de Bienestar Social (∞: .899) y Escala de Satisfacción Vital (∞: .813) . Los principales hallazgos condujeron al desarrollo de Pautas para la mejora del Programa Laboral de Bienestar de los docentes en la dimensión personal, familiar, socio-afectiva y ocupacional.
