This research project started from the need to inquire into the pedagogical
attitudes in undergraduate study level of the Faculty of Humanities of the university
institution “Universidad de la Costa (CUC)”. The main purpose of this search is to
identify the pedagogical attitudes of Humanities professors from Universidad de la
Costa and the influence of these attitudes in students learning.
The interest in clarifying these practices focused on identifying the current state
of the object of study to correlate it then with the standards of quality of the teaching
and learning process of CUC. The research, approached from a descriptive point of
view, basically relied on cognitive and humanists principles of developmental theory,
consolidated in the educational model of the university. The methodology included a
direct observation instrument through a checklist format, with 10 indicators applied to
28 teachers randomly selected. Besides, an instrument to apply to 28 students
chosen at random.
The results showed that a great percentage of teachers shows pedagogical
attitudes in their daily practice. They are able to favor the previous learning of
students; they facilitate the increase and development of autonomy of learners to
manage their own knowledge. They show respect for the pupil contributions in spite of
mistakes they could do. It means that professors use several procedures to develop
learners’ capacities and generate knowledge. In keeping with the last information, the students express in a high percentage
that their teachers show pedagogical attitudes. They have more understanding of
topics when they relate knowledge, it motivates them to make their own knowledge,
at the same time it promotes autonomous learning, in this way they are able to find
answers to their doubts in the diverse moments of training. They consider that their
teachers use positively their ideas although they are wrong. Professors become
facilitators of learning, stimulating the creation and recreation of ideas or perceptions
according to their reality, this let them to face any inconvenient they could have in the
learning teaching process.
In low percentage, as in the observation process developed as in the answers
given by the students, it is evident that some professors would not show pedagogical
attitudes. That is why it is necessary to propose actions according to the findings of
this investigation to enrich the learning teaching process that professors carry out.
