The study of the development of peoples and the state of conser-vation of their heritage is an extremely important subject, since it helps to know, among other things, the ways of life of a place and the cultural identity of its people at a specific time. The study of the architectural heritage antecedents in the department of Atlántico is proposed, in the specific case of built heritage, which allows not only to know the degree of maintenance of the structures that form part of it, but also to explore the different ways of understanding the environment, based on factors such as its morphology and typol-ogy. Some municipalities in the South of the department of Atlántico have been affected from the natural catastrophe occurred by the winter hour in 2011, which has caused a strong impact not only in the state of the buildings, but in the socio-economic field, generating hopelessness in a community rooted in a place, which is commonly organized around a public space flanked by a religious unit and administrative buildings, surrounded by numerous houses, which could translate into an urban morphology typical of a programmed and standardized activity of the Spanish colonization. The study of the architectural heritage antecedents in the department of Atlántico is designed with the intention of providing municipal administra-tions with a tool that serves as support to request, in accordance with the Norms and Criteria of the Ministry of Culture, the allocation of resources for the Programs of Restoration and Maintenance of National Monuments carried out by the Directorate of Heritage

The materials used for the building constructions can suffer during their life numerous deterioration processes induced by different anthropogenic and natural factors. For this reason, optimal restoration works are vitally necessary for a correct Built Heritage preservation process. One of the most critical environment is the marine atmosphere (marine aerosol impact following dry and wet depositions) where the climatic conditions are very aggressive. For this reason, the new building materials that will be used for a restoration must be selected taking into account the possible deterioration sources that are present in the vicinity of the building or construction. Among marine aerosol, other factors such as biodeterioration, water infiltrations, physical stress, even pollutants than can be deposited from the surrounding environment must be taken into account. This work is focused on the analytical and physical study of the different building materials used for the restoration works carried out in 2014 in the Tower of La Galea Fortress (Getxo, Basque Country, Spain), a historical construction placed in front of the sea. The analyzed materials were the weathered sandstone (original sandstone) and the one used to replace it (restoration sandstone), as well as restoration joint and rendering mortars. The results presented in this work offered a global idea of the correct material selection, taking into account the different factors that can affect the integrity of the whole building in the future. In order to test the durability of these materials against the surrounding environment, different analyses were carried out. On the one hand, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and Wavelength Dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WD-XRF) were used for chemical characterization of the materials. On the other hand, Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) was used to understand the porous system and the thermal behavior was studied using Infrared Thermography (IRT). Finally, the thermal fatigue test was carried out to determine if temperature cycles could have impact in the structural integrity and aesthetic appearance (i.e. color changes) of these materials during time.

The global lockdown to mitigate COVID-19 pandemic health risks has altered human interactions with nature. Here, we report immediate impacts of changes in human activities on wildlife and environmental threats during the early lockdown months of 2020, based on 877 qualitative reports and 332 quantitative assessments from 89 different studies. Hundreds of reports of unusual species observations from around the world suggest that animals quickly responded to the reductions in human presence. However, negative effects of lockdown on conservation also emerged, as confinement resulted in some park officials being unable to perform conservation, restoration and enforcement tasks, resulting in local increases in illegal activities such as hunting. Overall, there is a complex mixture of positive and negative effects of the pandemic lockdown on nature, all of which have the potential to lead to cascading responses which in turn impact wildlife and nature conservation. While the net effect of the lockdown will need to be assessed over years as data becomes available and persistent effects emerge, immediate responses were detected across the world. Thus, initial qualitative and quantitative data arising from this serendipitous global quasi-experimental perturbation highlights the dual role that humans play in threatening and protecting species and ecosystems. Pathways to favorably tilt this delicate balance include reducing impacts and increasing conservation effectiveness.

This article derives from the research “La articulación de la Psicología con la Teología en la restauración integral del ser humano” (Cooperation between Psychology and Theology toward a comprehensive restoration of the human being). This topic has been subject of research interest in education contexts, since the current crisis circumstances of society lead to reflect upon the need of incorporating a component of psychosocial prevention and intervention strategies in Psychology programs of different universities. The objectives of this study were to conceptually develop strategies granting the cooperation of Psychology and Theology in benefit of a comprehensive restoration of the human being; identify the perceptions of the spiritual dimension present in the processes of psychosocial prevention and intervention strategies of the Psychology program at Universidad de la Costa –CUC–; put forward a comprehensive prevention plan to guide from a spiritual stance the search of a person’s meaning of life; and, describe a emotional-centered psychosocial intervention plan allowing an improvement in life quality.

El Centro Histórico de Barranquilla fue declarado Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional por el Ministerio de Cultura previo concepto del Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales, a través de la Resolución 1614 del 26 de Noviembre de 1999. Como quiera que el edificio del hospital está ubicado dentro de dicho centro histórico, es menester realizar acciones encaminadas al rescate y conservación de nuestro patrimonio arquitectónico y en estos momentos estamos realizando esta propuesta de rehabilitación del Hospital General de Barranquilla, para hacer del edificio un espacio de disfrute colectivo, que logre integrar a la comunidad circundante y de la ciudad en general. Es necesario emprender obras como la rehabilitación del Hospital General de Barranquilla, en las cuales se vean involucrados lugares de memoria, se entienda su significado y su relación con la historia de la ciudad. Ello significa valorar el pasado de la urbe y evitar así anacronismos vergonzantes. Al mismo tiempo, es necesario tener en cuenta, que el verdadero valor del patrimonio, llámese arquitectónico, histórico o cultural, está determinado por la inquebrantable relación entre el espacio urbano y los usos sociales que lo han caracterizado a través del tiempo.
