The main purpose of this research work is to analyze the Dynamic Adaptation Capacity
developed by SMEs in the Metalworking Sector in the city of Barranquilla, specifically within
the export process. In the first instance, an approach to the state of the art and the
conceptualization related to the Dynamic Capacities has been developed as one of the main
contemporary emerging paradigms in the Economic and Administrative Sciences. The dynamic
capacity of adaptation is an endogenous organizational capacity that, faced with changes in the
environment, acquires complex dimensions to evolve into a higher order. The methodological
approach of the research assumes an empirical - analytical approach, with a transectional, non -
experimental, descriptive design. The sample of the study is made up of XX SMEs of the
Metalworking Sector that develop export processes and are currently active in the city of
Barranquilla. The instrument is of semi-structured type and collects qualitative and quantitative
information, was designed and validated by the expert judges’ criteria and corresponds to:
Questionnaire of Dynamic Capacity of Adaptation of the Export Process in SMEs of the
Metalworking Sector of Barranquilla. The structure of the questionnaire consists of two scales
namely: Scale of Practices of Dynamic Adaptation Capacity within the Export Process in SMEs
of the Metalworking Sector made up of (30) items in frequency scale with (5) degrees, and the
Rating Scale of the Level of Development of Dynamic Adaptation Capacity within the Export
Process in SMEs of the Metalworking Sector, which is semi-structured (cuali-cuanti) and
corresponds to the six components or characteristics inherent in the organizations that allow it to
respond to short and long term impacts, either through planned measures or through allowing
and stimulating creative responses, both a priori and a posteriori, for which they develop: 1)
Strategic flexibility; 2) Intellectual flexibility; 3) Resilience. 4) leadership, 5) Resources, and 6) governance. The questionnaire data was analyzed with the support of statistical procedures
(SPSS). The data derived from the qualitative component present in the questionnaire are
analyzed with the use of qualitative software (MaxQda and Invivo). Based on the results, it is
possible to identify the level of presence of the practices and level of development of the
dynamic capacity of adaptation within the export process of the SMEs of the Metalworking
Sector in the city of Barranquilla.
