By reducing traffic congestion in large cities and providing a safe place to leave vehicles while their owners are doing their activities, parking facilities play an important role in society by reducing congestion and the negative externalities (e.g. CO2 generation, noise, congestion) caused by vehicular traffic, being this one detrimental to society. Additionally, parking lots must establish strategies that allow them to be profitable and remain competitive. We determined the rate of a parking lot with a 20% margin, considering the rate of actual arrivals and the lost arrivals rate when the parking lot is full and the time a vehicle spends in the parking lot. In the results we found the queuing theory is applied to a private parking lot, in addition to establishing an optimal pricing policy, operating policies are established that allow it to generate additional revenue.

Research into assisted living environments –within the area of Ambient Assisted Living (ALL)—focuses on generating innovative technology, products, and services to provide medical treatment and rehabilitation to the elderly, with the purpose of increasing the time in which these people can live independently, whether they suffer from neurodegenerative diseases or disabilities. This key area is responsible for the development of activity recognition systems (ARS) which are a valuable tool to identify the types of activities carried out by the elderly, and to provide them with effective care that allows them to carry out daily activities normally. This article aims to review the literature to outline the evolution of the different data mining techniques applied to this health area, by showing the metrics used by researchers in this area of knowledge in recent experiments.

This paper investigates the macroeconomic determinants of first enrollment in private higher education institutions, as a dependent variable, for 21 Departments of Colombia plus the capital city of Bogotá from 2005 to 2020. The bases of the human capital theory were contrasted with the empirical evidence for the case studied, and the effect of currency devaluation represents a new contribution to the literature. We used the Prais-Winsten methodology with corrected standard errors and first-order autocorrelation correction to estimate the econometric model. The results suggest that favorable variations in GDP, wage expectations, and population positively impact the dependent variable. However, the devaluation of the Colombian peso against the US dollar, represented in the trm variable, has a negative effect, i.e., the devaluation of the peso would lead to a reduction in the dependent variable.

This research extends the discussion about service quality measurement. Two new quality aggregation measures using OWA and IOWA operators are proposed by making use of the SERVQUAL and SERVPERF scales, and their calculation methods. A numerical example is performed considering the classical approach and the aggregation proposal. Results showed similar aggregate valuations. The new operators allow reordering at both the general level and per dimension, which allows including the relevance given by the user, or using a vector from an external party. New lines of analysis are exposed. Those are related to the use of OWA extensions, quality scale extensions, or applying thresholds in multicriteria methods for service quality.
