Estimación de la huella de carbono de la Sociedad Portuaria Regional Barranquilla utilizando la NTC-ISO 14064:2006
Abstract
The Regional Port Society Barranquilla – SPRB S.A.-, is a company that manages the public maritime and Fluvial Terminal located in the city of Barranquilla, under a scheme of concession to 20 years. Its main activities consist of the documentary control of the activities of loading, unloading and storing merchandise, as well as inspections and internal audits of the same processes. It also manages the implementation of corrective and preventive actions for its port operations. SPRB S.A., aware of the environmental problems not only of the Caribbean region, but the whole world, has translated its environmental policy into a strong commitment through the implementation and integration of the environmental management system and the protection and Conservation of the environment in which port operations are developed. Climate change is not an unknown issue for SPRB S.A., nor are the objectives of sustainable development established by the United Nations Development Programme; Therefore, the SPRB and the University of the coast have joined forces to calculate and estimate the carbon footprint of the SPRB S.A., with the aim of establishing alternatives of reduction and compensation of the emissions of GEIs and in the same way to mitigate the impact that the port activities cause to the environment. The methodology implemented, is established in the technical standard ISO 14064:2006, also used as a general framework the Protocol GEIs (or GHG protocol), developed by the Institute of World Resources and the World Business Council for Development Sustainable. For the evaluation and validation of the calculation of the carbon footprint in the SPRB, the 2016 was selected as the base year of study, period in which all the information required for the conformation of the greenhouse gas emissions inventory was I for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd range. For the calculation were strictly followed the steps established in the NTC-ISO 14064:2006 greenhouse gases 1st part, that specifies organizational-level orientation for the quantification and presentation of the GEIs emissions and removals report, initially elaborating an inventory of GEIS emissions thus obtaining a total emission of 178,507 T CO2-e and continuing with An inventory of GHG removal with a removal value of 2.47 T CO2 And finally a carbon footprint of 178,504 T CO2, which indicates that the removal of CO2 within the port society is insufficient, without even reaching 1%.
