This paper analyzes the possible im-pact of a massive replacement of incandescent lamps for power saving lamps -standing out CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) and LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) among them- on electric distribution networks. It is expected that, in a short or medium term, these emerging tech-nologies will replace the incandescent lamps, inasmuch that since June 1, 2011, Argentina, following rules implemented in other countries, started banning the sale of incandescent lamps of 25 W or greater. A residential distribution network was modeled and simulated, and the in-fluence on the power quality indices of the pro-gressive increase of lamps with high harmonic components was investigated. Distortion levels could exceed the limits established by the regu-lations in force, but would not reach very exces-sive values.eng
