| spa |
dc.description.abstract | There is not always agreement between what the religions propose and the proposals of science in subjects related to health and illness, presenting important divergences for some creeds in relation to the understanding of mental illness. The text develops historical references They point out how in the history of the West these disagreements have led to the consolidation of two very different lines of thought in their proposals: demonological vision in which the interpretation of mental illness prevails as a possession of demons and another characteristic of the health sciences where biological, psychological, social theories prevail and even the encounter of these. In the theoretical referents, contributions are scored from different places of the social sciences where it is pointed out how religious beliefs generate an important effect in the way people assume their lifestyle. It is here that a contribution is made to the theme presenting the results of a research carried out at the University Corporation of the Coast in Barranquilla, Colombia where it was advanced on: The way believing Christians understand mental illness describing how this influences their style of life in health. The results value the place and the contributions of health professionals in the subject and propose a discussion on the Christian discourse and discourse of science in relation to the disease mental. | eng |
