Abstract
This article analyses the context of the model for attracting foreign investment and the weaknesses that it entails for the maintenance of economic and social development in the region. This is especially true if one takes into account the number of concessions made by States to make themselves conspicuous, and the responsibility generated by not being able to maintain as many benefits as they offer. For this reason, some cases are studied of States that, in order to make them selves attractive, promoted internal changes that strengthened them by making them attractive to foreign investment, without the need to make so many concessions. For the present research, we are based on the deductive method, starting from the generality of the cases, and going on to the analysis of concrete situations that can favor regional development, decreasing the dependence on foreign capital. This aspect was strengthened by a review of the literature which served as a basis for the reaffirmation of the conclusions obtained. The main conclusion is that, in order to be more effec- tive, internal reconstruction processes are needed, as well as the strengthening of institutions and structures. This will make the region more competitive and attractive to foreign investment
