In coastal ecosystems such as beaches, there is an accumulation phenomenon called Thick Woody Debris (DLG) or Large Woody Debris (LWD), which promote essential ecological functions and produce benefits for society. Until now, little attention has been paid to DLG from an ecosystem service perspective. Therefore, it was aimed to contrast social perceptions about DLG with its ecological importance on the beach of Puerto Velero, Colombia. Then, through this research, it was sought (i) to characterize the ecosystem services of the Puerto Velero beach, in this case to analyze the DLG as a precursor of ecosystem services; (ii) to determine the perception that users of the beach have in the area of study on DLG (Coarse or Large Woody Debris); (iii) Assess the Ecosystem Services (SE) at Puerto Velero beach, Tubará as an estimate of contribution to human well-being. It was discovered that the DLG promoted the accumulation of beaches and promoted to the local authorities a saving of $ 171 billion COP pesos for erosion control. However, most people neglected the values of the DLG due to its lack of visual appeal (73% of the respondents expressed a negative image towards the DLG, 40% considered it as garbage; even 40% were willing to pay $ 11,918 COP / visit for the elimination of the DLG). In this context, social perspectives were in conflict since, on the one hand, people positively value the ecosystem services that beaches provide (perspective beauty). On the other hand, they did not value the contributions of nature that were not 'attractive' to them (the perspective of the beast), regardless of their enormous importance.spa
