The goal of this article is the identification through the study of the viceregal palace, of the administrative
forms and the cultural legacy and heritage in the New Kingdom of Granada. Part of the understanding
and study of the colonial process is covered later in the construction and presentation of buildings that
are paramount in this process, and one of the most important examples that can be seen is the Viceregal
Palace, which was destroyed 26 years earlier circumstantially the first attempt since independence in 1810.
Two of the main causes of the disaster was an earthquake and a fire (which happened a year later), which
partially destroyed the Palace. The first, an earthquake on July 12, 1785, which affected the palace so that
this was uninhabited. Later, on 26 May 1786 burned the palace of the Viceroy, who was in Cartagena. Here
we will answer the following questions: colonial administration could rebuild after these events the viceregal
palace? Why was it so important to this building in Santa Fe’s city life?
