The carbon footprint quantifies the impact that an organization has on climate change through the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG). In this sense, the present research aims to quantify the GHG emissions in the university campus of the Universidad de la Costa generated in 2019 and 2020 from the application of the Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard of the Greenhouse gas protocol (GHG Protocol). For this, the 4 phases were carried out; phase 1. construction of assumptions and calculation models, phase 2. collection and analysis of information, phase 3. calculation of the carbon footprint and finally formulation of improvement/reduction strategies (phase 4). It was obtained that the Universidad de la Costa emitted 142,522.78 TonCO2eq, of which 99.7% corresponds to Scope III, 0.22% corresponds to Scope II and the remaining 0.03% was adopted for Scope I emissions. In 2020, 72,039.06 tons of CO2eq were emitted, decreasing by 49.45% of the emissions generated in the base year of 2019. The efficient management of information by the technical-administrative support is recommended to continue with the annual report of GHG emissions and likewise, it is suggested to implement strategies, encourage carpooling, bicycle use and awareness on waste management to reduce Scope III emissions that represent the largest contribution to the institutional carbon footprint.
